ANCIENT AIRS for Orchestra (composed by Thomas Kobialka)
Trying to get back into composing after a hiatus. This piece is very much inspired by Jeremy Soule's "wall-of-sound" style.
Enjoy!

"Time to Run" from Tomb Raider (Nathan McCree/Thomas Kobialka)
Переглядів 2 тис.5 місяців тому
Many years ago I wrote a piano arrangement/paraphrase of the track "Time to Run" from the 1996 video game "Tomb Raider", composed by Nathan McCree. As a tribute, I decided to make an impromptu performance of it this weekend in anticipation of the upcoming release of the remastered editions of TRs 1-3, which comes out on February 14th. Here's the original: ua-cam.com/video/WGG_HKwXT3I/v-deo.html...

One of the best, most goosebump-inducing, and fantastical pieces of film music ever conceived.
Ravel missed the chance of just flatly starting his "waltz" with "4/4".
I've been trying to find a score for this for ages. I really want to recreate this theme as well. Have you already made the sheet music, if so, could I use it to recreate the theme myself?
I never got around to making sheet music, unfortunately. Frankly there are quite a lot of errors in this mockup (e.g. "cello spicc" at the beginning should probably be violins/violas), and I was never fully comfortable with notating what would be an orchestral score filled with inaccuracies.
@@tomekkobialka still sounds amazing! Did you have any sources you got your composition from? Or all by ear?
@@mr.stryker7769 Thank you! No, all done by ear! I would've used the sheet music if I had it though, haha.
@@tomekkobialka great job! I also usually do them by ear. But I’ll definitely use yours for reference once I start covering Skyrim

I must admit the accent bothers me here and prevents a bit from enjoying the beauty of the music and the voice. It is much better for non-natives then to enjoy it.

My Favorite (of many 😁) 1:38:18 Bbmin section - Alberich yields in impotence and shame, but attempts to salvage dignity by directing his rage upon his less powerful Nibelung slaves. He increasingly presses them _(Rasch da! Rasch!),_ the sound swelling until the section resolves into THE most terrifying F major chord in the repertoire (1:40:04 - Bbmin6 to F).
One of my favorite parts is not in the timestamp: 49:14 the "arietta" of Wolfram in the first act. Such a beautiful, almost Italian-like melody.

It's too much.

The expanded prelude to “ Der Gezeitnegen “ One of the most beautiful pieces of music written in the the 20th century. Thank you for sharing this
Coro stupendo.. Magnifica......
This is the Rimsky Korsakov orchestration. You can tell because it is faster plus the trill that the one tremolo is played backwards instead of forwards. On a string instrument in modern compositions from the classical period onward the trill is played for example as C and then a D. So you get an upwards trill. In Naroque music trills are played backwards ie D then a C. The tremello of this could be C and E forward or E to C backwards. I assume that RK thought sacre blje didn’t they teach you anything at the conservatoire and this has this was an amateurs mistake that Mussorgsky had made and corrected it. The other thing that is different is that Mussorgskys version is a tad slower so you can hear what the players are playing.
Much of it sounds like bad Saint-Saens. Lots of huffing and puffing for nought.
INCREDIBLE stuff!

When you want to give the concertmaster a mini violin concerto.
This isn’t how Puccini envisioned how the opera should end. Alfonso did something which was heinous by using his own ideas not the ones of Puccini. Alfonso met with Puccini before his death. He was dying from throat cancer. He was due to have a procedure to remove the tumour but Puccini died not long after the operation and never came out of the anaesthesia they gave him. The meeting was to show what Puccini planned for the finale. Toscanini was also at the meeting. What they got was a composer trying to out his style in the finale which shows badly. Yes he did the job and finished the work but he finished the work in his style not in Puccini’s style. Toscanini wasn’t impressed and did something unusual at the first performance. When he came to the last note that Puccini wrote he out down his baton and turned around to the audience and said no more. Basically he stopped in tribute to Puccini’s musicianship.
Isn’t this the piece that Rimsky Korsakov butchered. I prefer the original Orchestration by Mussorgsky himself. It’s not as furiously fast as the RK orchestration. RK also changed the music at the end with another tune from Mussorgskys repertoire. He didn’t need to do this as the original work ws fine as it was. It is a revelation to those who have never heard the Mussorgsky original.
The song that the chorus is singing is a Russian folksong. Interestingly this tune appears in a choral work by Sydney Campbell called Praise to God in the Highest. The tune forms most of the work.
